All week leading up to the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh, we’ll be profiling top prospects who may hear their names called Friday in the first round. Nothing too in-depth. Just enough so you know who they are and what they’re about.

Oscar Dansk (G)

Height: 6'2 Weight: 186 Catches: Left

Team: Brynas Jr. (Swe-Jr)

Country: Sweden

NHL Central Scouting ranking: No. 2 among European goaltenders

What kind of player is he?

A promising young goaltender who already has some experience on the international stage.

He probably won’t be the first goaltender selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, but he is likely to get scooped up within the first two rounds. As is typically the case with a netminder, he shouldn’t be counted on to compete for a job at the NHL level immediately following the draft. However, he does have enough upside to eventually become a starting goaltender at the NHL level.

The Hockey Writers compared his composure to Jaroslav Halak.

“Dansk exploded on the draft scene with a strong World Jr. A Challenge as he backstopped Team Sweden to a 1-0, 44 save performance against the defending champions; Team USA. Dansk is arguably the best stick handler in the draft. He plays a hybrid style that is both calm and collected and has solid net coverage thanks to his 6'2 frame. Dansk had a strong regular season but faltered in the playoffs, however his performance to conclude the season at the World U18 Championships led to a silver medal despite being pulled in the gold medal game. Dansk is a composed goalie with solid fundamentals.” -- David Burstyn, McKeen’s Hockey
