The Montreal Canadiens have signed veteran NHLer Jake Dowell to a deal with their AHL affiliate in Hamilton, the club announced on Monday.

Dowell, 29, has appeared in over 150 career games with Chicago, Dallas and, most recently, Minnesota -- he was part of the Wild’s big ’12 free agent haul that included Ryan Suter, Zach Parise, Zenon Konopka and Torrey Mitchell.

Dowell has had some good success at the NHL level. In 2010-11, he scored 21 points in 79 games for Chicago and, the following season, scored seven points in 52 games for Dallas. That said, he’s only played three games in the bigs over the last two years and has spent the majority of his time in the American League, and will probably do more of the same for Montreal next season.
