Columbus Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson was the latest player to receive a cut from a skate, which seems to be a regular occurrence early this season.
Atkinson took a skate right above his right eye during Columbus’ 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks Friday night.
On Saturday, Atkinson revealed a close up of the damage:
Thank you everyone for checking in on me. Luckily the skate just missed my eye. Really appreciate all the LOVE. pic.twitter.com/5PpcDzO6nn

Atkinson joins Islanders’ defenseman Thomas Hickey and Stars’ blue liner Patrik Nemeth among players who’ve suffered skate cuts this season. Wild forward Jason Zucker also had a close call.
Columbus has the day off Saturday so it is uncertain when Atkinson may return to the lineup.
The Blue Jackets visit the L.A. Kings Sunday afternoon.
