Jagr moves past Dionne for fifth all-time in scoring

Jaromir Jagr

Jaromir Jagr

Another day, another record set by Jaromir Jagr.

The ageless wonder, playing in his 1,500th career contest, continued his ascent up the NHL’s all-time scoring leaderboard on Monday night, registering a goal and an assist in the middle frame against Carolina to move past Marcel Dionne for fifth all-time in points, with 1,772.

Jagr started his historic night off late in the second period, scoring his fifth goal of the year off a Scott Gomez assist. Less than five minutes later, No. 68 assisted on Adam Henrique’s power-play marker with 16 seconds left in the period to pass Dionne, the Hockey Hall of Famer who racked up 1,771 career points in 1,348 games.

Next up for Jagr on the points list? Another Hall of Famer: Ron Francis, Jagr’s former Penguins teammate, who retired in 2004 with 1,798 points on his resume.
