Joe Sakic hoping for management position with Avalanche

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post is reporting that Joe Sakic is hoping to break into the NHL front office business, and is looking to do so with the Colorado Avalanche.

“You can’t just jump in and start at the top. I would go in knowing I’d have to learn all parts of the business for a few years,” said Sakic, the Avs’ all-time leading scorer who retired last summer.

Dater says that the team will look to discuss the possibility of Sakic joining the Avs in some capacity after the NHL draft. There are some openings in the front office, and it’s always a good move to have a former franchise great take a place in the management side of the team.

However, Sakic says that he’s not looking to move up to become a coach as he’s not a big fan of spending all that time away from his family. Sakic knows he can’t expect to get a top position right away and is willing to work his way up in the front office.
