Not even close: NHL shoots down NHLPA’s response
Today was a “step backward” in CBA negotiations, according to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
Bettman delivered the bad news shortly after the NHLPA presented the NHL with three proposals as a response to the offer the league made Tuesday.
Not one of those three proposals was acceptable to the owners.
“It’s clear we’re not speaking the same language in terms of what they came back to us with,” said Bettman, who called the NHL’s last offer “the best that we could do.”
“I am to say the least thoroughly disappointed,” he added.
It is now more unlikely than ever that the NHL will be able to play a full 82-game schedule.
“I don’t know what the next step is,” said Bettman, who will return to New York from Toronto. “I’m obviously very discouraged.”
