The Edmonton Oilers announced today that Bob Green has been named the club’s director of player personnel.

Green previously had success as the GM of the Edmonton Oil Kings, with whom he was named the WHL’s executive of the year in both 2011-12 and 2012-13. He then joined the Oilers’ scouting staff in 2013. And now he’s been promoted.

“He’s going to oversee all aspects of our scouting department,” Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said, per the club’s website.

“We’ve been really impressed by the detail of his work. He knows how to build a team and is on side with our preference to get bigger, stronger and faster athletes.”

The Oilers have not drafted well since their playoff drought began almost a decade ago, and the team today is paying for it.
