Despite trade speculation, Carolina Hurricanes captain Eric Staal won’t be waiving his no-trade clause.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Staal wants to remain in Carolina.

Staal has one year remaining on his contract, which carries an $8.25 million cap hit before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2016.

The 30-year-old has 13 goals and 26 points in 37 games this season.

Staal was Carolina’s first-round pick (second overall) in 2003.
