It’s promising that the NHL and NHLPA will reportedly kick off their CBA negotiations on Friday, but it’s unlikely that they’ll hammer everything out before free agency begins. With that in mind, Darren Dreger reports that a second set of meetings will take place from July 5-6 in New York City.

Both the NFL and NBA required plenty of lengthy (some might say grueling) discussions before they hashed out their own deals. One could argue that both leagues faced more complicated questions than the NHL and NHLPA will face, but you never know how easy it will be to cut up that revenue pie.

At some point, it’s reasonable to hope that weekly meetings might turn to daily ones, but most fans and onlookers probably don’t care how a deal gets done. Instead, most of us just hope for as limited damage as possible.
