Save of the Night - October 22 (Henrik Karlsson)
If real life played out like NHL ’11 or any number of hockey video games, this save might have made someone (definitely not me, though, because I’m super sophisticated and convincingly mature) throw a controller.
That’s because skilled Columbus Blue Jackets forward Derick Brassard was all alone in front of rookie Calgary Flames goalie Henrik Karlsson and received an amazing goal scoring opportunity in a prime area. Yet Karlsson made it look easy, going side-to-side and taking up plenty of the net.
It might not earn Karlsson a ton of starts considering the fact that the Flames are handing big bags of cash to Mikka Kiprusoff twice a month, but it’s a spiffy save nonetheless ... on a night that wasn’t particularly kind to goalies.
