Sens re-sign Gryba: two years, $2.5 million
Ottawa has re-upped with one of its youngsters, signing RFA defenseman Eric Gryba to a two-year, $2.5 million extension on Thursday.
The deal, first reported by the Ottawa Sun, comes after Gryba established himself as a regular in the Sens’ defensive rotation. He appeared in 57 games last year and recorded a career-high 11 points, averaging 17:31 TOI per night.
The 25-year-old has been with the Sens organization since being selected in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. A big, physical rearguard that can hit, Gryba is perhaps best known for his vicious open-ice check on Montreal’s Lars Eller in the opening round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs:
In related news, Ottawa also re-upped with minor-league defensemen Chris Wideman and Michael Sdao. Both were RFAs and have yet to make their NHL debuts.
