There seems to be something missing from this picture P.K. Subban Tweeted

Here is a strange one.

On Saturday evening Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban Tweeted out a picture of him and former Montreal Canadiens teammate Scott Gomez to congratulate the latter on his recent retirement from the NHL.

Gomez and Subban were teammates together for three years in Montreal between the 2009-10 and the 2011-12 seasons.

To help celebrate Gomez’s retirement, Subban Tweeted the following message: “Congratulations to a mentor, influencer, and most importantly, close friend. Scott Gomez congrats on your retirement,” a message that was accompanied by a picture of the two standing together in Montreal.

But what stands out about the picture is what is not there. Specifically, the Montreal Canadiens’ logo on both helmets. It is very obvious they were photoshopped out.

Those are practice uniforms, but the Canadiens’ practice uniforms still have the logo on the helmets. And they are obviously blurred out here.

Subban, of course, was traded by the Canadiens earlier this summer in a blockbuster deal in exchange for Shea Weber.

It is one of the biggest one-for-one trades in recent NHL history and is still a very controversial move (and it apparently was before it even happened) given the impact Subban has on the ice, the age difference between the two players, and the contractual obligations. The Canadiens got a very good player right now in return. But they also gave up one of the best and most popular players in the league to do it. There was also the fact that the relationship in recent years between Subban and team management (some of those previous contract negotiations were not exactly smooth) and the current coaching staff (like the time Michel Therrien pretty much blamed Subban for single-handedly losing a game) always seemed to be a little tumultuous.

Is it a copyright issue and the Canadiens being ultra protective of their logo and how it is used? Possible, but that explanation seems like a stretch because something like this almost never happens. Still some hard feelings over the way a nearly decade long relationship came to an end over the summer? Also possible.
