If it wasn’t clear already, Kimmo Timonen confirmed today that he plans to retire following the season.

Timonen, a pending unrestricted free agent, had already strongly hinted that this would be it, saying prior to his comeback from blood clots, “I want to come back and hopefully play a game and leave this game with my skates on.”

The 39-year-old defenseman was traded from Philadelphia to Chicago prior to the deadline, getting an opportunity with the Blackhawks to hoist the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career.

Timonen has come close to winning it all; he lost in the finals (to the ‘Hawks) with the Flyers in 2010.

“My only goal is to win the Cup,” he said after the trade, per “This isn’t about money or anything else. I had a good seven years with the Flyers; I always thought I would retire here but this is the right move.”
