The Cambia Portland Classic will feature the world's top women professional golfers at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, OR and it's just around the corner.

This year’s Portland Classic runs from September 16 – 19.

A familiar face who knows that winning feeling in Portland is Marina Alex. The now 31-year-old, Wayne New Jersey native, turned pro in 2012.

But it was in 2018 in PDX when she earned her first and only professional win.

And it was an epic victory at that.

Alex closed with a 7-under-par 65 to finish four strokes ahead of third-round leader Georgia Hall, who went on to win the 2020 Cambia Portland Classic.

The 2018 win marked Alex’s first tour win event since turning pro. She finished at 19-under 269 after beginning the round a whopping six shots behind Hall.

As she looks towards this year's Portland Classic, she’s eager to get the final stretch of the LPGA Tour underway.

“I’m really hoping I can build some good momentum,” Alex told NBCSNW. “Continue to get those competitive reps in and potentially get some better results.”

Alex has had a difficult stretch as far as health goes. She has been dealing with a nagging back injury and tested positive for COVID-19 last July.

She discussed how the Cambia Portland Classic is “dear to her heart,” while she couldn’t help but gush about Portland.

I’ve loved Portland before becoming a winner there. I loved coming to the event.

“I always stay in the Alberta district, get to go out to eat at nice places. It just didn’t even feel like a tournament week,” Alex said as she reminisced about 2018.

That year, Alex was enjoying her best season prior to winning the title.

As the Classic now shifts to West Linn, Alex couldn’t help but speak highly about the Columbia Edgewater Golf Course.

“I’m sad we are not playing Columbia because I do really like that golf course, but I’m looking forward to what Oregon Golf Club is going to be like and I’ve heard good things. I hear it’s absolutely beautiful. I’m looking forward to something new, but I do miss Columbia very much.”

As for what she knows about the Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Alex knows all about the hills.

“It’s going to be kind of a beast to walk, but other than that it is a picturesque course,” Alex said with a smile.
