The Portland Pilots have found its destination and are preparing to land.
The University of Portland and NBC Sports NW are partnering to air men's and women's college basketball games for the Pilots' 2020-21 NCAA college basketball season.
NBC Sports Northwest viewers will be treated to four Pilots telecasts this season (two women’s, two men’s) with additional West Coast Conference Pilots games scheduled to be announced at a later date. Pilots games airing on NBC Sports Northwest will be produced by the University’s on-campus production team, the Portland Sports Network.
The first game will be the women's team hosting the No. 10 Oregon Ducks at the Chiles Center on Monday, November 30th. In addition, NBCSNW will carry the Pilots women’s squad in action against the Seattle University Redhawks on Sunday, December 6 at 12 p.m. (PT).
Returning second-year head coach Michael Meek was at the helm of a successful 2019-20 campaign for the Pilots (21-11 record) as he guided the team to their first WCC Tournament Championship since 1994. Additionally, 2020 WCC “Newcomer of the Year”/regular season scoring leader/Tournament MVP Alex Fowler returns after averaging 18.0 points per game last season.
As for the men's team coached by Portland Trail Blazers legend Terry Porter, they will be featured in a pair of Pilots games on Tuesday, December 22 at 12 p.m. (PT) against the Montana State Bobcats and on Wednesday, December 30 at 8:00 p.m. (PT) versus the Seattle Redhawks.
The 2020-21 men’s team features a revamped roster with nine newcomers, including impact Division I transfers Ahmed Ali (Washington State) and Michael Henn (Cal Baptist). The Pilots also return last year’s starting point guard and defensive specialist Chase Adams (1.8 SPG).
Handling the play-by-play call for all men’s and women’s Pilots telecasts on NBC Sports Northwest will be Oregon’s first female sportscaster and current voice of the NWSL’s Portland Thorns FC Ann Schatz, with game analysis provided by former Santa Clara University head women’s coach and long-time Gonzaga women’s assistant coach, Jennifer Mountain.
