Although the Chargers won’t be going to the playoffs this year, there is one positive to take away from this season.
Rookie quarterback Justin Herbert has been the answer they have been looking for at that position, and his stellar first-year campaign continued with passing a major milestone on Sunday.
Against the Denver Broncos, Herbert threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to running back Austin Ekeler in the first half to mark his 28th passing touchdown of the year.
With that, he passed Baker Mayfield as the previous owner of the mark, set back in 2018.
Herbert is also the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 4,000+ yards and 25+ touchdowns in a season. The Oregon alum has certainly shown out this year more than what people thought.
Herbert is 11-of-17 for 124 yards in the game with one touchdown and has the Chargers up 13-0 in the second quarter.
Congratulations to the former Duck on setting the new passing record for rookie quarterbacks!
