Benson and Beaverton punch tickets to the semi
The semifinals are set in the OSAA 6A Girls Basketball state tournament. Southridge and West Linn moved on in the morning session, while Beaverton and Benson punched their tickets later that night.
In the first game of the second session Beaverton took on Sheldon. The Irish jumped out an early 8-0 lead, and things looked shaky before Beaverton turned things around en route to a 60-45 win. Aside from that early flurry, this game was all Beaverton.
The second game was a lot closer. Benson and Tigard locked horns in a defensive battle that saw both teams struggle to make shots and struggle to hold onto the ball. Late in the game, with a two point lead, Benson coach Eric Knox drew up a perfect inbounds play that allowed guard Makenzy Porter to drive to the rim untouched for the four point lead. Tigard would have a chance late, but the Benson defense stood firm and Tayler Lyday came up a steal to seal the deal.
Benson will take on Beaverton in the semifinals on Friday. Tipoff is set for 3:15pm at Chiles Center.
