It took long enough for the NHL Seattle franchise to get “Kraken” on a name, but it’s finally here.

Long live the Seattle Kraken.

The NHL’s 32nd franchise announced its mythical creature nickname, logo, uniforms and more in a grand announcement on Thursday. We did a deep dive on the Seattle Kraken, uncovering everything you need to know about what’s lurking in those deep, dark Puget Sound waters.

Let’s get started --

Name

In a livestreamed press conference on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m., the Seattle franchise revealed the team name.

A single survey resulted in 100,000 fans weighing in with 1,000 unique team names,"  CEO Tod Leiweke said. "We listened, we read every name, but we listened more than that survey. For the last two years, we’ve listened in coffee shops, and in meetings, and in Zoom calls at our preview center, we’ve heard from 10s and 10s of thousands of fans, and we’ve spent two years listening. We knew if we did listen, we couldn’t go wrong."

Leiweke is right. There were a lot of amazing potential names like Sockeyes and Emeralds, but there could only be one.

Meet your Seattle Kraken.

Logo

The logo features an "S" as the primary mark -- a tribute to the original Seattle Metropolitans uniforms. The Metropolitans, the city's original pro hockey team from the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup in 1917.

The logo was designed in close partnership with Adidas.

Uniform Colors

The team’s home jersey was also unveiled, featuring the navy blue color as its base. It showcases an “S” logo on the chest and the secondary Space Needle logo on the shoulders, two shades of teal as stripes and a thin red stripe around the waist and both sleeves.
