Coach Carter - Let me just put it this way. I was a 16-year-old high school baller when this movie came out, and I was introduced to Channing Tatum. There were only two things in life that mattered to me at that time: basketball and Tatum.
Air Bud - A movie about a dog who shoots hoops and a friendship with Josh that tugs at anyone’s heartstrings. And his name is buddy and I mean C’MON!!!
Space Jam - An immaculate plot. The best basketball player of all-time is recruited by Bugs Bunny to help them win a basketball game against a group of aliens. Everybody get upppp, it's time to slam now!!!
-He Got Game
Jason's Analysis -
When talking about sports movies, believability is a huge factor. That’s why my first two picks were easy ones. Hoosiers is based on a true story, and the quality of play in the movie wasn’t awkward or hard to watch. He Got Game, with the professional excellence of Ray Allen, and the acting chops of Denzel, elevate it to the upper-echelon of basketball movies. And Semi Pro … I just have a soft spot for Will Ferrell.
-White Men Can’t Jump
-Love and Basketball
First off, I’m pretty jealous of Serena’s team. I wanted to draft Space Jam sooooo bad. Second, even though I didn’t get Space Jam, I’m pretty happy with my team. With this draft you can have a good laugh and get inspired all at the same time.
Plus, a Michael J. Fox movie is always clutch in any draft.
Dwight's Analysis -
For me, Hoosiers would always be No. 1 -- but I wasn't picking high enough to get it. After that, no doubt the great documentary Hoop Dreams is No. 2. But I must say, the list of basketball movies is a wading pool compared to the ocean that is baseball movies. Not much to choose from after the second round.
