Was Kevin Durant right about Jake Layman?
Nearly two years ago, Blazers forward Jake Layman dropped 17 points, including five threes, in his NBA debut against the Warriors.
It didn’t seem like much then, but following the game, Warriors star Kevin Durant told reporters Layman should be playing more. Fast forward two seasons and 100 games later, 23-year-old Layman is thriving in his role off the Portland bench.
Through the Blazers last three games, Layman averaged 10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds in roughly 19 minutes of play. He recorded a double-double in Monday’s win over the Knicks while starter Maurice Harkless was benched with knee soreness.
Was Kevin Durant right? One thing is for certain…Layman is playing well when he gets minutes.
Jayson Tatum willing to trade himself for Anthony Davis
The Boston Celtics are one of the teams reportedly in the hunt to acquire Pelicans star Anthony Davis, but it’ll likely require moving some critical pieces.
One of those key pieces could be forward Jayson Tatum, who recently said “I’d trade me too,” when his father, Justin, told 98.5 “The Sports Hub” that he’d trade Tatum for Davis.
While it’s unclear whether or not a package including Tatum would be enough to bait the Pelicans into a Davis trade, it’s good to know that it's an option for the Celtics.
Tatum is averaging 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game this season.
Is Kristaps Porzingis leaving the Big Apple?
Kristaps Porzingis could soon be on his way out of The Empire State.
Porzingis has yet to play this season due to a torn ACL, but he's sure to attract some eyes when he becomes a restricted free agent this summer.
One team keeping their eyes on the Latvian power forward is the San Antonio Spurs, according to Kevin O’Conner of the The Ringer.
Prior to his injury, Porzingis averaged 22.7 points in 48 games last season.
Kevin Love has no ETA on his return
Could Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love be out until All-Star break? The odds of this happening are looking more and more likely.
Love, who was previously targeting a mid-January return, told the Associated Press that he still does not have a timeline for his return after left foot surgery.
“I don’t know. It’s really tough for me to say because I don’t know how my foot is going to respond. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later,” Love said.
The 30-year-old suffered a left toe injury in Cleveland’s exhibition game and underwent surgery for the injury after playing in just four games.
