NFL New and Rumors: Fines all around the NFL
Lots of news to get to around the NFL:
- Seahawks make cuts to add Mychal Kendricks
- Fines, on fines, on fines...
This and more in our NFL roundup...
You can't do that
Dolphins defensive end Andre Branch had a vicious hit on Taylor Lewan, leaving the Titans' offensive tackle with a concussion. Following the hit Branch began taunting Lewan, leading to a brief scuffle between the two teams.
The league did not dock Branch for the hit, but they did fine him a cool $10,026 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Some reports say Branch was seen yelling "body bag" from the sideline after the hit.
... and you can't do this
The NFL has really made an attempt to protect the head this season, and it has led to many a questionable flag. Bengals defensive back Shawn Williams was on the receiving end of one of those flags in Week 1. Now his wallet is $10,026 lighter.
Williams was flagged for an illegal hit on Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, but he still believes he wasn't in the wrong.
“If you guys have any suggestions on what I can do to not get a flag and still do my job, then let me know,” Williams said. “I don’t know if they want you to know what Andrew Luck is going to do. I don’t know what he’s going to do. If it was up to me he should slide and give himself up earlier, but he didn’t.”
...oh, you also can't do that.
Fines, on fines, on fines! The NFL dished out a lot of fines this week, including fining Rams defensive back Marcus Peters for grabbing his crotch during a touchdown celebration. The celebration was aimed directly at Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch, who was fined for grabbing his crotch twice during the 2014 season.
The damage? $13,369 removed from Peters' bank account. However, the star DB isn't worried, saying the fine "was worth it."
Bengals may lose Mixon
Bengals starting running back Joe Mixon injured his knee on Thursday against the Ravens but was able to finish the game, however, it appears his status for the team's next game is now in question.
Reports are suggesting the Mixon may need arthroscopic surgery to repair the injury, in which case he would miss a significant amount of time.
The same reports are saying the Mixon may be seeking a second opinion before deciding what to do. If he has to miss time it's a huge blow to a Bengals team that has started the season 2-0.
Goodbye Grace, hello Kendricks
The Seahawks desperately needed depth at linebacker with both K.J Wright and Bobby Wagner dealing with injuries this week. The relief came in the form of Mychal Kendricks.
The addition of Kendricks is interesting, to say the least. Kendricks is facing years in prison after pleading guilty to insider trading. However, Kendricks will not be sentenced until January, meaning this may be the last months he will ever be available to be on an NFL playing field.
To make room for the veteran defender the Seahawks had to cut Jermain Grace.
