YOU get a head coach and YOU get a head coach and YOU get a head coach!
Tis the season for head coach swaps, contract negotiations, roster moves, and new faces in the upcoming draft. As we enter into a weekend of NFC and AFC Divisional playoffs, let’s put the playoffs on hold for a moment and take a look at the latest head coach hires around the NFL and current coaching vacancies.

Baker Mayfield gets his man
The next head coach for the emerging Cleveland Browns is finally here. Kitchens first joined the Browns’ coaching staff in January 2018 as running backs coach and assistant head coach under Hue Jackson. With the NFL trending more in the offensive-minded direction and with gun-slinger, rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield giving life back to Cleveland, Kitchens fits the mold.
Kitchens’ prior coaching history? He’s got a lot, both at the college and NFL levels, but is lacking head coaching experience:
2004 Mississippi State University (tight ends coach)
2005 Mississippi State University (running backs coach)
2006 Dallas Cowboys (tight ends coach)
2007-2012 Arizona Cardinals (tight ends coach)
2013-2016 Arizona Cardinals (quarterbacks coach)
2017 Arizona Cardinals (running backs coach)
2018 Cleveland Browns (running backs/associate head coach)
Fun fact: A three-year starter at quarterback for the University of Alabama (1995-97), Kitchens finished his playing career with 4,668 yards and 30 touchdown passes for the Crimson Tide.

Broncos hire Vic Fangio as next HC
In perhaps a more opposite direction that head coaching vacancies have trended this season, the Denver Broncos have hired Vic Fangio as their next head coach. The 60-year-old Vangio is coming off a four-year run as defensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears. Chicago lead the league this season as the NFL’s top scoring defense.
By opposite direction, I simply mean Fangio is not a young, hip newcomer college coach with the slicked greasy side cut hairdo in the tight long-sleeved shirt while sporting the cleanest Ray Ban sunglasses with an offensive mind. Fangio is experienced and defensive-minded.
In what Chicago defensive end Khalil Mack describes Fangio as “evil genius”, I’m sure Von Miller is grinning ear-to-ear right now.

Alongside Fangio is newly appointed Gary Kubiak to offensive coordinator.
