NFL News and Rumors: Dear Commissioner Goodell,...
One more week of NFL action
So, can we agree just on one thing: those were two really good football games last weekend during the NFC and AFC Championships. Both visiting teams won. Both games were determined on a last-minute score. Both went into overtime.
The Los Angeles Rams defeated the New Orleans Saints on a 57-yard game-winning field goal in overtime, 26-23 to advance to the Super Bowl with the youngest coach ever to reach it. The New England Patriots, who some were saying were too old and too slow to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, defied the odds and came away with Tom Brady leading an overtime touchdown-winning drive, 37-31.

Dear Commissioner Goodell…
If you could write a letter to the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after that weekend of football, what would you say? Well, turns out New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson did just that after a heart-breaking NFC Championship loss on a controversial no-call towards the end of the game. Watson writes:
“Commissioner Goodell. We all realize that football is an imperfect game, played, coached and officiated by imperfect people. What occurred last Sunday in New Orleans though, was outside of that expected and accepted norm. Your continued silence on this matter is unbecoming of the position you hold, detrimental to the integrity of the game and disrespectful and dismissive to football fans everywhere. From the locker room to Park Ave, accountability is what makes our league great. Lead by example. We are waiting.”
To make matters worse, the NFL announced on Friday that Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman will be fined $26,739 for helmet-to-helmet contact made on the hit that Watson describes above.
How do we feel about replays on penalties?
Let’s break down that play shall we: Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis breaks to the outside looks back for a pass from Drew Brees and before the ball even gets there, Rams CB Nickell Robey-Coleman delivers a huge hit. Clearly the contact was early and clearly the hit was helmet-to-helmet and clearly Robey-Coleman did not turn his head around and look for the ball… any of these statements would warrant a small yellow flag to be thrown in the air and yet there was no flag to be found.
No many have argued that this is one of “the worst non-pass interference calls you’ll see”, and whether you agree or not, the conversations of should there be some sort of rule instated to allow for replay on penalties.

Antonio Brown really wants to be a 49er
Brown posted on his instagram on Friday morning a picture of himself in a San Francisco 49ers jersey being embraced by former 49ers Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.
See the photo here.
The drama in Pittsburgh between Brown and head coach Mike Tomlin continues. After posting that video, can it be assumed that Brown is not welcome back in Pittsburgh? Put yourself in Tomlin’s shoes and you see one of your players posting himself in another team’s jersey? According to Pro Football Talk, Tomlin explains that he only tolerates Brown during the week because he is good on Sunday’s.

Patrick Mahomes offseason workouts are intense
Looks like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is right to work this offseason… well…. sort of. Mahomes is currently in Florida for Pro Bowl weekend, but found some time to hit the local Top Golf. And boy, if this whole football thing doesn’t work out for the young QB (which it most likely will), perhaps the links would be a good second for him.
Watch Mahomes’ swing here.
Now he has got the local ECHL hockey team, the KC Mavericks, are reaching out to Mahomes regarding bringing his mad skills to the ice.
It is impressive indeed. While Mahomes is taking this time to come down from that AFC Championship loss last weekend with some good times at the Pro Bowl and at Top Golf, Mahomes is determined to see K.C. back on top:
“Thank you #ChiefsKingdom, This hurts now but we will be back love y’all for y’alls support.”
Pro Bowl Update
Maybe Russell Wilson shouldn’t have just been a “filler”. In his sixth Pro Bowl, Wilson continues to show his dominance that carries over from regular season play. Since Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers backed out of the Pro Bowl due to injury, Wilson got the call.
Other Seattle Seahawks with Wilson at the Pro Bowl include linebacker Bobby Wagner, in his fifth Pro Bowl, and rookie kicker Michael Dickson, in his first Pro Bowl appearance.
The Pro Bowl AFC vs NFC showdown kicks off at 12 PM (PT) on Sunday.
