NFL News and Rumors: Garoppolo, Antonio Brown friendship forming?
Offseason moves underway
With the AFC and NFC Championships coming up this weekend, seems a bit odd to switch gears and look ahead at next season already, but here we go anyways.
Who will make a big offseason move? Who is up in free agency? And where will Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray get drafted? All this in this week’s NFL news and rumors:
- Where will Antonio Brown land next season?
- Kyler Murray draft projection
- NFL Free Agents on the move
Did we just become best friends?
Can you imagine a life where quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and receiver Antonio Brown are in the same jersey? Rewind the clock to the late 2017 NFL season, and it seemed as though the winds were changing in San Francisco. The thick marine layer slowly started to lift with the signing and play of newly acquired Jimmy Garoppolo (from New England). The 49ers went 3-0 to finish the season with Garoppolo at the helm and the future was bright.
But all that changed when he suffered a season-ending injury in week three against the Kansas City Chiefs this season. Now, after a 4-12 season, the 49ers will have Garoppolo back next season and potentially grab Antonio Brown who is rumored to “really want” to be in San Francisco.
Let’s pretend that this went through: Antonio Brown is a 49er. Other receivers in the corp? Marquise Goodwin, veteran Pierre Garcon, and rookie Dante Pettis… adding Antonio Brown to the mix would lift up this group immensely.

NFL Free Agency
The biggest questions surrounding each team’s free agency? Who can we see making a big change? For the Seahawks, two of the biggest free agency questions are Earl Thomas and Frank Clark. For the six-time NFL Pro Bowl safety Thomas, he has battled contract negotiations and injury in this past season with Seattle before ultimately suffering a season-ending injury in week three vs. the Arizona Cardinals. Has the final member of the Legion of Boom played in his last game in a Seahawks uniform?
The other question mark is defensive end Frank Clark, who has recorded 32 sacks and 66 QB hits in the last three seasons. Retaining Clark may be at the top of the list for Seattle due to not just his performance, but his leadership in the locker room and making the way for this pass rush in a division with other QB’s Jared Goff and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Kyler Murray draft projection
We could potentially see the first ever athlete to be drafted in the first rounds of both the MLB and NFL drafts. Oklahoma baseball star, quarterback stud, and Heisman Trophy winner could make history on Thursday, April 25th on the night of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Murray was already drafted in round one (9th overall) by the Oakland Athletics in the 2019 MLB Draft (in June 2018). The 5’11”, 195 pound athlete then played a football season at Oklahoma where he put his name on the college football map and lead the Sooners to a College Football Playoff appearance (losing to Alabama in the Semifinals).
And then the speculations came. Should Murray drop football (due to his size) and pursue MLB alone? Or should he continue with football and come back to baseball after his NFL dreams? All that went to bed on Monday, January 14th when Murray announced via Twitter he was to enter the NFL draft.
Where will he end up? Few analysts have the New York Giants grabbing Murray at No. 6. What about Jacksonville? Denver?
