NFL News and Rumors: Who is the G.O.A.T. quarterback?
NFL News and Rumors:
We are finally to Week 9 of the NFL season and the trade deadline has officially come and gone. Let's get up to speed with what we can expect this week around the NFL:
- Brady or Rodgers: Who is the G.O.A.T. quarterback?
- It’s still the James Conner show
- An NFL cheerleader kneeled during the anthem
- Should we be worried about Gronk’s ankle?
Brady or Rodgers: Who is the QB G.O.A.T.?
There’s G.O.A.T. to be a reason the NFL blessed us with this matchup this week. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers will go head-to-head for the first time since 2014, as the Packers head to New England to face the Patriots.
Brady has put up some stellar numbers over his 19 years, playing in eight Super Bowls, and winning five. He was also named Super Bowl MVP on four occasions and league MVP three times. Brady has 16 touchdowns for 2,200 yards so far this season.
Rodgers has won a Super Bowl and two MVP awards, and is playing at an exceptional level so far this season. In seven games, Rodgers has 2,283 yards passing for 13 touchdowns.
It’s still the James Conner show
We’re days past the deadline of the NFL trade deadline, and Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell is still nowhere to be seen. Per CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, the Steelers have had no contact with Bell or his agent as of late. Bell will need to report before Week 10 to be eligible for free agency in 2019.
James Conner continues to steal the show during Bell’s absence. Conner has surpassed expectations as Pittsburgh’s starting runner. Last week, he shocked the Browns with 212 yards on 29 touches.
He’ll have his workload cut out for him this week, though, as the Steelers face a Ravens team that held him to just 19 yards in Week 4.
An NFL cheerleader kneeled during the anthem
Move out of the way, Colin Kaepernick. Last night, a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader took a knee during the national anthem at Levi’s Stadium.
Multiple sources, including NBC Bay Area reporter Damian Trujillo, took note of the cheerleader's action during The Star Spangled Banner. It is not clear if the cheerleader did this to support Kaepernick, and his protests for racial injustice and police brutality.
This could be the first time an NFL cheerleader has knelt during the national anthem, but it's unlikely to be the last.
Should we be worried about Gronk’s ankle?
Injuries are nothing new for Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, but his lackluster numbers this season make it fair to question whether his health is a real problem.
Despite missing only one game in Week 7, Gronkowski has been on New England’s injury report with back and ankle injuries for the last few weeks. He’s only had 29 catches for 448 yards and one touchdown this season.
Gronk returned to practice Friday, and is listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
