Always Us, Oregon alumni basketball team, wins first round game at TBT

The Always Us basketball team lived up to its namesake, spreading out the scoring and using a huge third quarter to advance to the second round of The Basketball Tournament Sunday afternoon.

The No. 4 seeded Always Us squad, a team made up of alumni from Dana Altman's tenure at Oregon, defeated the No. 13 seeded Peoria All-Star, 79-73.

The Ducks alumni had three players in double figures, Mike Moser (13 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks), Dwayne "Snoop Dog" Benjamin (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Tajuan Porter (11 points), along with Casey Benson adding nine points, two assists and two rebounds.

The Peoria All-Stars had the game's two leading scorers in Lachlan Anderson (20 points) and Dustin Ware (19 points), but fell short thanks to Always Us outscoring them by 15 in the third quarter.

The teams were tied at 30 heading into the halftime break.

Shockingly, 5′ 8″ point guard Johnathan Loyd led the game with five offensive rebounds.

Leading the Oregon alumni on the glass was Shakur Juiston with eight boards to go with seven points.

Always Us plays its second round game on Monday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. PST against the Autism Army, a "first-year TBT participant competing on behalf of the Life’s WORC organization, a non-profit providing care and support services for people with developmental disabilities and autism," per TBT

The Army are led by former Rhode Island forward Delroy James, whose son has been diagnosed with Autism, as well as enigmatic former St. John’s guard D’Angelo Harrison.
