Justin Herbert a dark horse candidate for MVP

Last season, Oregon Duck alum and Chargers QB Justin Herbert won the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year award and surpassed expectations that were set for him prior to the start of the season.

Now entering his second season, NFL experts have high hopes that Herbert will continue his success with the Chargers.

Good Morning Football’s Peter Schrager believes that Herbert could even win the MVP award this season.

The GMFB crew listed their early dark horse MVP candidates for the 2021 season, and Schrager decided Herbert was worthy of consideration.

It is a fair pick to have him on that type of list, especially with the numbers Herbert put up in just his rookie season.

Herbert set rookie records for total touchdowns with 36, passing touchdowns (31), completions (396), multi-passing touchdown games (10), games with 300 yards passing (8) and three-passing touchdown games (6).

Schrager highlights that the Chargers will have a new offensive system that will play to Herbert’s strengths and his new offensive line boasts All-Pro center Corey Linsley, Matt Feiler, Oday Aboushi and first-round pick Rashawn Slater.

Herbert will also have key offensive players back this season with the additions of Jared Cook and Josh Palmer.

So you can see that heading into his second season, Herbert should have a chance to shine again.

As of now, Herbert has the ninth-best odds to win the MVP this upcoming season.
