Justin Herbert is QB1 for the LA Chargers.
That much is clear after his stellar Rookie of the Year campaign.
But, now the Chargers have a veteran back-up to serve as his back-up: Chase Daniel.
Both Daniel and the team confirmed the signing of the 34-year-old on Friday.
The Chargers needed to sign a backup after Tyrod Taylor left for Houston this offseason.
Daniel's signing isn't random, either.
He'll mentor Herbert in an offense he knows well.
Head coach Brandon Staley was an assistant with Bears when Daniel served as back-up to Mitchell Trubisky.
Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was the QB coach for both of Daniel's stints in New Orleans.
He spent last season with the Lions, playing four games.
In his career with five teams, Daniel has appeared in 69 games with five starts. He has 1,694 passing yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
