Taylor Chavez announced she would enter the transfer portal following the Oregon Ducks season coming to an end in the Sweet 16 with a 60-42 loss to Louisville.
Now we know who the former Oregon guard will be suiting up for next.
The Surprise, Arizona native is heading back to the desert and will join Adia Barnes and the Arizona Wildcats who are coming off an incredible NCAA Tournament run that took them to the National Championship Game.
“I can’t wait to spend the next two years playing for Coach Adia Barnes and being a part of a great program,” Chavez tweeted. “LET’S GET IT TUCSON!!!”
Ultimately, U of A fell to Pac-12 foe, Stanford, but the future is bright for the Wildcats, especially with Chavez now on the squad.
Chavez is coming off a season with Oregon where she averaged 4.1 points, 2.1 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 19 games for the Ducks. She missed five games due to COVID-19 protocols this past season and had career-lows of 35.7 % FG shooting and 33.3% from three-point range.
Chavez, who backed up eventual WNBA stars like Maite Cazorla and Sabrina Ionescu, saw her best production during her sophomore year when she was awarded Pac-12 Sixth Player of the Year. During that season, Chavez shot 49.7% from the field and 47.4% from three-point range, which led the Pac-12.
Chavez suffered a foot injury in 2018-19 that did not allow her to play in the postseason, and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Now she will have an opportunity to bring her veteran leadership and ability to guard both ends of the floor to U of A, as the team looks to build on its success this season and capture a National Championship next year.
