Justin Herbert, Robert Saleh will not be together in Los Angeles after Saleh hired as Jets HC

After an impressive record-setting rookie season, Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will enter his sophomore campaign with a new head coach.

The Chargers brass made changes after they finished the season with a 7-9 record, parting ways with Anthony Lynn after four seasons as head coach.

As Los Angeles looks to fill one of the best coaching vacancies in football, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh emerged as one of the top candidates.

However, on Thursday, Saleh was hired away to become the next head coach for the New York Jets.

Saleh had a busy few days as the coaching carousel began to turn with seven head coaching vacancies left to be filled. The New York Jets announced Wednesday that Saleh had completed a second interview after speaking with the Jets for the first time on Jan. 8 over Zoom. He is the first candidate to complete a second interview for the Jets head coach position.

Those who were hoping for Saleh to lead the Chargers and Herbert for the foreseeable future unfortunately won't get their wish.
