Raiders sign backup quarterback to contract extension, and it's not Marcus Mariota


If it seems like the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback situation is in the headlines a lot recently, that’s because it has been. 

With rumors of Deshaun Watson wanting out of Houston and a potential landing spot being Las Vegas replacing Derek Carr or fans wanting to see backup Marcus Mariota get a better opportunity, especially after his performance against the Los Angeles Chargers last season, Raiders Nation need answers and soon regarding the direction of the franchise.

And that starts with the quarterback.

However, on Thursday, the team announced an extension for one of it’s signal-callers, and it’s not Marcus Mariota.

Yes, this news has nothing directly to do with Mariota. The ‘Fly’n Hawaiian’ has a contract of his own.

Back in March 2020, Mariota agreed to a two-year, $17.6 million deal with Las Vegas that has a first-year guarantee of $7.5 million with some incentives for playing time.

Last season, the Raiders QB depth chart went as follows: Carr, Mariota and then Peterman.
