Penei Sewell is officially a pro.
The former Oregon Ducks offensive tackle was snagged by the Detroit Lions with the seventh-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland.
As expected, many of his former teammates, coaches and members of Duck Nation sent their well-wishes to the newest member of the Lions.
Even the Lions front office hugged it out following Sewell's pick.
For months, there has been speculation around the once-in-a-generation talent and where he would land come Thursday. The hype around Sewell as the best offensive tackle prospect in decades emerged with good reason. Sewell has many desirable attributes from his size, athleticism, competitive toughness and pass protection to his ability to change the game at an NFL level.
As a sophomore, Sewell won the Outland Trophy, becoming the first such player to do so. He was also the first Polynesian player to take home the prestigious nod. He was also selected as a unanimous first-team All-American, an honor bestowed to a select few for their rare level of dominance.
Now, Sewell has an opportunity to prove to the nation why he is more than one of the top talents in the 2021 NFL Draft. Congrats Penei!
