A battle between two of the nation’s top women’s basketball teams will headline the inaugural Pac-12 Coast-to-Coast Challenge this December.
Oregon will meet with Baylor in a non-conference clash at T-Mobile Arena. The challenge will take place Saturday, Dec. 19 as part of a quadruple header featuring the Ducks and Lady Bears, as well as three Pac-12 men’s programs: Colorado, Oregon and Washington, against Big 12 opponents Oklahoma, TCU, and a third program to be determined at a later date.
“This is an amazing opportunity to showcase two of women’s basketball’s top teams on a national stage, as well as the ascension of the Oregon and Pac-12 Women’s Basketball brands,” Pac-12 Senior Associate Commissioner of Sports Management and Institutional Services Teresa Gould said in a statement.
“We look forward to having a women’s basketball presence as part of this unique quadruple-header and creating an NCAA Tournament-caliber neutral site atmosphere for these program’s outstanding student-athletes and coaches and hope their fan bases embrace and enjoy the experience.”
The Oregon women’s basketball team last met Baylor in the 2019 NCAA Final Four. The Ducks historic season ended in a 72-67 loss to the eventual national champions.
Oregon star Sabrina Ionescu returned for a final season in hopes that the Ducks could net a NCAA championship, but they’ll likely have to go through the Lady Bears to get there. Oregon and Baylor have both secured regular-season titles and spent the season in Top 5 of the women’s basketball standings.
