Oregon Ducks with highest preseason AP Poll ranking since 2015

Oregon Ducks

It's been a while but it's time to welcome the Oregon Ducks back to the preseason AP Top 10.

Despite the Pac-12 not planning to play college football until 2021, the Associated Press still wanted to rank all teams in the preseason poll regardless if they were going to play or not.

With that decision, the Oregon Ducks came in ranked at No. 9, the program's highest preseason ranking since being No. 7 in 2015, following an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

It also marks a new preseason high for the program under Mario Cristobal, whose previous record was No. 11 ahead of the 2019 season opener against Auburn last season. While that game didn't go as planned, the season as a whole did with the Ducks taking home Pac-12 and Rose Bowl Championship Rings.

As for other Pac-12 teams ranked in the preseason poll, only USC (No. 17) and Utah (No. 22) are ranked with Arizona State, Washington, and California all receiving votes.

Had the coronavirus not impacted the 2020 college football season, the Ducks would be hosting No. 2 Ohio State on September 12, but that matchup got canceled when the Big Ten changed to a conference-only schedule. The Pac-12 followed in their footsteps shortly after. Now, both conferences have pushed college football into 2021.

The Associated Press will only be ranking teams that play from here on out so the Ducks will no longer be ranked for the rest of the originally scheduled college football season.
