Oregon-Ohio State schedule new home-and-home football series

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Oregon Ducks were set to have the best home schedule in program history, headlined by a Week 2 matchup against eventual national runner-up Ohio State.

That game was cancelled, however, due to the pandemic making nearly all P5 conferences shift to an all-conference schedule in attempts to contain any spread.

The return trip to Ohio is still set for September 11, 2021 at Ohio State, but Duck fans have been asking when Ohio State will be coming to Auzten Stadium.

Well, Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors reports Ohio State and Oregon have agreed to an additional home-and-home series to be played in 2032 and 2033.

The 2021 game will be played at Columbus but Oregon's guarantee has been increased to $3.5 million in return for the 2020 game at Autzen Stadium being cancelled.

“We just couldn’t find a date next year or the year after or even before ‘26, there was no way that we could return the game. And that’s why we had to up the guarantee,” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told Eleven Warriors during an interview.

Scheduling out the home-and-home series this far in advance isn't unusual. In fact, the 2020 and 2021 series was agreed to in 2012.

All-time, Ohio State is 9-0 against Oregon including wins last decade in the 2010 Rose Bowl and 2015 National Championship. Those are the two lone matchups between the programs since 1987.

The schools have played each other in Pasadena, CA twice (1958, 2010), Arlington, TX once (2015), Eugene, OR once (1967) and Columbus, OH five times (1961, 1962, 1968, 1983, 1987).

The 2021 matchup will kickoff at 9:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 11th.
