Oregon linebacker MJ Cunningham enters NCAA transfer portal

Tis the season for players across the country to decided whether to stay with their respected schools or pursue another route.

On Friday, the Oregon Ducks defense took a hit with sophomore linebacker MJ Cunningham announcing his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

“Not only this staff currently but the prior as well, I have developed friendships and memories with people I’ll never forget…”

Cunningham redshirted the 2018 season and in 2019, recorded nine tackles (five solo) in 12 games played. He played in four games this past season (Stanford, UCLA, Oregon State and CAL) and finished with just one tackle.

If there was one position group that the Oregon Ducks defense is in a really good position for the future is linebacker.

This season, freshman Noah Sewell earned the starting inside linebacker spot alongside junior Isaac Slade-Matautia. The Ducks will be getting back five-star linebacker Justin Flowe coming off an injury that kept him out all 2020 season and his younger brother four-star linebacker Jonathan Flowe in the class of 2021. Not to forget four-star linebacker Jackson LaDuke in the same class as Sewell and Flowe.

Good luck wherever you go, MJ!
