Oregon MBB ranked behind UCLA, ASU in 2020 Pac-12 preseason media poll

The reigning 2019 Pac-12 Conference Champion Oregon Ducks will begin their quest to repeat as champs beginning on Wednesday, November 25 with non-conference play (opponents still to be determined) and conference play starting on Saturday, December 12.

Ahead of the 2020-2021 season tipoff, the preseason media poll was released on Thursday. 

In the closest vote among the top three teams in league history, UCLA was picked to win with 251 points, followed by Arizona State with 246 and the Ducks at 241. Stanford was fifth (209) followed by Arizona (173) and USC (154).

Despite getting picked third in the preseason media poll, the Ducks will tipoff the 2020 season ranked No. 20 in the AP Top 25 behind No. 18 Arizona State and in front of No. 22 UCLA.

OFFSEASON ROSTER MOVES:

  • Francis Okoro entered NCAA transfer portal and transferred to St. Louis
  • CJ Walker transferred to Central Florida
  • Addison Patterson entered the transfer portal and has landed at Nevada
  • Ducks signed “Michigan Mr. Basketball” freshman guard Jalen Terry; freshman guard Gabe Reichle (younger brother of Oregon State’s Zach Reichle); senior transfer Amauri Hardy (from UNLV); sophomore transfer guard Aaron Estrada (from Saint Peter’s); and senior guard/forward LJ Figueroa (from St. John’s).

Also on Thursday, senior guard Chris Duarte and junior guard Will Richardson were named to the preseason Pac-12 All-Conference First Team.

Duarte was named both All-Pac-12 honorable mention and Pac-12 All-Defensive honorable mention as a junior in 2019-20. The Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, native was second on the team in both scoring (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (5.6 per game). He led the Ducks in steals and ranked fourth in the Pac-12 at 1.7 per game.

Richardson was one of the most improved players in the Pac-12 last season. He led the league in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.9 percent on the year (38-of-81). That was the fifth-best single-season effort in program history. The Hinesville, Ga., native was third on the team at 11.0 points per game and also averaged 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest.

 

Oregon will face UCLA on December 23, and Arizona State the week of January 13-17, 2021.
