The hot start for Celtics rookie point guard Payton Pritchard took a scary turn on Friday after the Oregon native had to be helped off the court after suffering an apparent knee injury.
Pritchard was under the basket when his teammate Jaylen Brown stumbled and fell into Pritchard's right knee, causing it to buckle and bend awkwardly.
Play was stopped at the 3:18 mark of the first quarter and Pritchard would have to be helped back to the Celtics locker room.
The former Oregon star was drafted 26th overall by the Celtics in the 2020 NBA Draft was starting to turn heads around the NBA this season. Pritchard is averaging 8.3 points and 2.8 assists per game while shooting a scorching 43.6% from deep.
The Celtics have officially announced that Pritchard will not return and are calling the injury a right knee sprain.
