Sabrina Ionescu gifts former youth team with Xbox consoles and Nike shoes

Sabrina stays winning.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Sabrina Ionescu, surprised her former youth club, The Cal Stars, with customized Nike Blazers, Xbox Series S consoles, and custom Xbox Wireless Controllers.

"The design of the shoes and the controller, I definitely wanted to do something that told a little bit of my story," said Sabrina.

"The controller has the Slurpee logo," she explained, referring to how her and her brother used to swindle people in pickup games to win money for Slurpees growing up.

The Xbox Series S consoles come embroidered with the quote "Here's to Dreams that Never Die."

"I just love everything about that quote," said Ionescu. "The secret to dreaming big would just be never letting someone tell you they're too big or you're not able to achieve them. "

Xbox jumped at the opportunity to work with Ionescu as described by one of the brand's lead designers.

“She’s the present and future of Women’s basketball,” says Elliott Hsu, Xbox principal designer, who was involved with designing the controller, shoe and console. “She’s a true gamer and Series X user. She’s someone who powers the dreams of young girls and boys alike. And for all those reasons we were thrilled to power her dreams and bring her Xbox visions to life.”

Ionescu grew up playing Halo and NBA 2K with her brothers and now they all squad up in Call of Duty.
