Oregon State Beavers

Oregon State Beavers

The Oregon State Beavers were down by 14 points with 7:06 left in the game. The Beavs came clawing back thanks to Destiny Slocum, Mikayla Pivec and Taylor Jones. The sharp-shooter Kat Tudor drilled a three-pointer to bring the game within three late.

With 15 seconds left, OSU stole the ball and had a chance to tie the game and send the game into overtime.

Unfortunately, Slocum missed the contested three-pointer and the No. 15 Oregon State Beavers (19-8, 7-8 Pac-12) lose their fourth straight in a tough battle against No. 4 Stanford (24-3, 13-2 Pac-12).

FINAL SCORE: Oregon State 60, Stanford 63

Here are three quick takeaways from the game:

1. THE BIG 3

Oregon State’s “big 3” came to play. It was the Destiny Slocum, Mikayla Pivec and Taylor Jones show all night. The three combined for 53 of OSU’s 60 total points.

The rest of the team combined for seven points.

These three need help.

2. DEPTH AN ISSUE INSIDE

Since losing freshman forward Kennedy Brown, the Beavers have struggled to find depth in the interior. Freshman Taylor Jones has carried the load down low, but if she gets into foul trouble, the Beavs are left with limited offensive options. Senior Madison Washington has seen more minutes and so had sophomore Patricia Morris, however the production level is not as present.

3. STANFORD HOME COURT ADVANTAGE

It is difficult to defeat the Stanford Cardinal, but it is even more difficult to do so when they are playing at home. The Cardinal committed just four turnovers (three in the fourth quarter) vs. Oregon State. It’s hard to beat a team with that kind of efficiency.

On the other hand, the Beavs committed 11 turnovers.

UP NEXT: The Beavs wrap up this Bay Area road trip with Cal (10-16, 2-13 Pac-12) on Sunday at 2 p.m. (PT) in Berkeley, Calif.
