“The best college football game I’ve ever seen was 1998 at Parker Stadium,” said the voice of the Beavers, Mike Parker.

The date was November 21, 1998. The Oregon State Beavers were hosting the Oregon Ducks at Parker Stadium on a rainy evening in Corvallis, Oregon.

Freshman quarterback Jonathan Smith (now in his third year coaching the Beavs), was coming off back-to-back-to-back heartbreaking losses in his first season as the starting quarterback. He had the opportunity to do so against the No. 15 ranked Oregon Ducks (8-2).

The game was back-and-forth all night and needed extra time to determine a winner.

The Ducks had to settle for a field goal on one of their overtime possessions, leaving the door open for the Beavs. Smith took the snap and handed the ball off to Ken Simonton, who would go down as one of the best running backs in Oregon State football program history.

"Once I turned the corner and saw the end zone, the only thing going through my mind was, 'Just leave. Go,'" Simonton said. "It felt so good to hit that end zone and end it right there."

Final score (OT): Oregon 41, Oregon State 44.
