The 2021 recruiting class for the Oregon State Beavers and head coach Jonathan Smith received a huge boost on Tuesday, landing a commitment from 4-star linebacker Easton Mascarenas.
Mascarenas, who plays for Mission Viejo High School in California, took to social media to make the announcement official.
After a long journey through the recruiting process, I’m excited to announce that I am committing to Oregon State University. I want to thank my family and coaches for putting me in the position I am today and to the Oregon state staff for the amazing opportunity - Easton Mascacrenas on Twitter

According to 24/7, Mascarenas is the 243 highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2021, and the 11th best inside linebacker with a composite ranking of 384th and 17th respectively.
Mascarenas had offers from numerous Pac-12 schools, including Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, and Colorado, but ultimately chose the Beavers.
I’d say just the connection that I have with the whole coaching staff and just the area in general... I do have an older brother who is a freshman up there (Akili Arnold), so because of him I’ve been up there a lot and I’ve formed a lot of bonds with the coaches and I feel like it’s a great fit for me." Mascarenas plays both linebacker and running back at Mission Viejo High School, but his biggest impact is on the defensive side of the ball. Over three years on varsity, Mascarena has totaled 189 tackles, 121 solo, 7.5 sacks, and four interceptions with one more year left to play.
Mascarenas may not be the only big-time defensive recruit to land in Corvallis.
Derek Wilkins, the No.12 defensive end in 2021, recently announced his Top 12 schools and Oregon State made the cut.
