The Oregon State Beavers look like a completely different team these past three games.
After grinding out back-to-back one possession victories over Arizona State and USC at home, the Beavs brought that same energy on the road 45 minutes south against in-state rival Oregon.
Oregon State built a 13-point lead throughout the first half and another double-digit lead in the second to defeat the Ducks down in Eugene, Oregon. The win also snapped Oregon’s home win-streak which was 28 consecutive at Matthew Knight Arena.
Make that three wins in a row for the Beavs this season as the momentum continues to rise.
FINAL SCORE: Oregon State 75, Oregon 64.
Oregon State needed to take advantage of Oregon’s Chris Duarte and LJ Figueroa not being available (COVID-19 protocols). So Wayne Tinkle went in a zone defense a majority of the first half after seeing the Ducks’ offense looking rusty after a one-week hiatus. It paid off and the Beavs built up a 13-point advantage and 34-28 lead at halftime.
Senior Zach Reichle was the best passer on the court tonight. He finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists. Warith Alatishe finished with his third double-double this season recording 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Turnovers. The Ducks love to apply full-court pressure which forces multiple turnovers. Oregon State finished with 12 turnovers tonight.
Did someone say SportsCenter Top 10?
This put-back dunk from Warith Alatishe was sensational.
Oregon State completely dismantled Oregon in the rebounding battle, beating the Ducks 42-23 on the boards. The Beavs pulled down 10 offensive rebounds which led to 14 second chance points and on the other hand, only allowed five offensive rebounds to the Ducks.
Senior guard Ethan Thompson also joined elite company with Gary Payton as the only Beavs in program history to record 1,400+ points and 400+ assists.
Postgame quotes from head coach Wayne Tinkle will be updated when made available.
