OSU's Wayne Tinkle to be inducted into University of Montana's Hall of Fame

Current Oregon State men’s basketball head coach Wayne Tinkle has been announced as part of the University of Montana’s Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame, Class of 2021.

It’s an honor befitting Tinkle. As he spent eight seasons with the Grizzlies, leading them to three NCAA Tournaments. In his almost-decade tenure with the university, he amassed a record of 158-89 (.640) and 97-39 (.713) within the Big Sky Conference. Damian Lillard also played in the Big Sky Conference while at Weber State.

"I want to congratulate the 2021 class of Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame inductees and their families," said UM director of athletics Kent Haslem.

"This is a tremendous class of Hall of Famers who made an undeniable impact on the University of Montana both in and out of competition. We look forward to celebrating this outstanding group and recognizing their achievements."

Tinkle was a player at Montana and made All-Big Sky three times. He is currently ranked fourth in rebounds and 10th in points and was the team’s MVP twice.

As a player and coach, he’s established himself as a Hall of Famer at his former school and is rightfully being recognized for his contributions.

“When I got that call, the hair stood up on my skin,” Tinkle said. “The University of Montana, it just means so much to my family and I. It was such a huge part of our growth as people as students and athletes. It will forever have a huge place in our hearts," said Tinkle.

"This is an incredible honor and a real privilege. It's such a storied program, not just in men's basketball, but really the entire athletic department. So, to be enshrined with some incredible athletes is a real thrill. I'm not much for individual awards or accolades, but this is going to be a very proud moment for me personally and for my family."

2021 has been a good year for Tinkle -- making it to the Elite 8 with the Beavers and now becoming a Hall of Famer.

Congrats, coach!
