Portland Thorns put on a show in win over rival OL Reign

Portland Thorns

It was a special night at Providence Park Wednesday.

Portland Thorns FC blew out northwest rival OL Reign, 4-1 in Portland’s final home match of the 2020 NWSL Fall series.

It was Portland’s second straight victory and it was a great night for forward Christine Sinclair, who notched her third hat trick of her Thorns career.

Sinclair sealed her hat trick at the 74 minutes when she made her way past four different defenders before finishing with her left foot.

Lindsey Horan delivered the assist, which was her second of the night.

Wednesday’s victory places Portland at the top of the NWSL Fall Series standings as the only team with six points.

Thorns goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom had seven saves on the night, while the last play of the half put the Thorns up 2-0.

Sinclair wasn’t the only to have a fantastic night; Rocky Rodriguez joined Sinclair in the scoring after notching her first goal as a member of the Portland Thorns.

Rodriguez used a left-footed volley to get the goal from the penalty spot after Simone Charley found her for the goal.

That’s like a dream goal that you would want to score not only in Providence Park, but your first goal with the Thorns. What a special night for me and the team as well.

It wasn’t until the 70' minutes that the Reign got on the board with a Bethany Balcer goal that cut Portland's lead to two.
