MLS reveals updated start date for the 2021 regular season

Save the date, soccer fans.

The MLS regular season will officially kick off on Saturday, April 17.

Major League Soccer announced the updated start to the upcoming MLS season on Wednesday afternoon. The start date comes just days after the MLS Players Association announced ratification of the revised CBA on Feb. 8, which will run through 2027.

Now that the hurdles have been cleared, the 2021 season appears a “go.” The full 2021 schedule will be released in the coming weeks, according to the Portland Timbers.

Preseason training camps were initially scheduled to open on Feb. 22 and the 26th MLS season was to officially kick off the weekend of April 5. The 2021 season will see each of the league’s 27 clubs play a total of 34 matches.

Other previously-established dates that are not expected to change include MLS Decision Day on Nov. 7 and the MLS Cup playoffs starting on Nov. 19 followed by the MLS Cup final on Dec. 11.
