Portland Timbers' Felipe Mora's early strike leads to three points against Vancouver

Give us Mora that!

It took only four minutes for the Timbers (7-4-3) to get a goal in Portland's 1-0 victory over Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC (5-8-0) at Providence Park.

Felipe Mora got the start at striker and the goal, his fourth in seven games, off a ball from Eryk Williamson.

The Whitecaps had plenty of opportunities for the equalizer but couldn't quite get their shots on frame, or when they did Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark was there to deter the attempt.

It's the second consecutive clean sheet for Portland after not having one since March.

With the victory, Portland sits alone atop the Western Conference with 24 points, at least momentarily. Rival Seattle Sounders FC can tie them with a victory against the Los Angeles Galaxy tonight; a game they led 3-0 when the Timbers' final whistle sounded.

The contest was played at Providence Park but with Vancouver as the designated home team, so the stadium was decked out in Whitecaps FC decorations.

Next, the Timbers will host the Colorado Rapids Saturday, October 3rd at Providence Park at 8:00 p.m. PT.
