Timbers: Andy Polo reportedly out for season after dirty tackle

The injuries keep piling up for the Portland Timbers.

As the result of an extremely dirty tackle by Derrick Williams of the LA Galaxy on Saturday, Portland's Andy Polo will "likely" miss the rest of the season due to quad and knee injuries per Stu Holden.

Williams was given a straight red card for the tackle and Polo watched the second half on crutches, as Portland scored three goals due to the man advantage and won 3-0.

“He’s not doing okay," said Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese after the match. "Now he’s going to get evaluated. There’s going to be a process to understand exactly what happened. As of now, it doesn’t look great.

"It’s unfortunate when there’s a tackle like that — you don’t want to see that on the field and especially having players that then have to come out because of that situation. So right now, the most important part is hopefully that Polo can come back.”

Polo has played in 62 games, 40 starts, for Portland since the 2018 MLS season, scoring two goals, dishing out five assists, and registering 57 shots, 19 on target.

Portland currently has nine players listed as out on its injury report. Polo would be the tenth.
