Blazers coming off a bounce back win
Portland beat the Washington Wizards 119-109 on Sunday night, which ended a two-game losing streak. In the win, Damian Lillard scored 40 points to record his third 40-point game of the season. Nobody else in the league has scored 40+ points in three different games yet this season. The Trail Blazers are averaging 114.9 points on 45.9 percent shooting at this point in the season.
Seeing a familiar face
The Blazers will see a former teammate in NYC… Forward Noah Vonleh, who played for Portland from 2015 to early 2018, is averaging 7.7 points and 7.9 rebounds while playing 23.2 minute per game. This is Vonleh’s first season with the Knicks. The 23-year-old has started 10 of the Knicks’ 17 games so far this season.
Without The Unicorn
It’s been nine months since Kristaps Porzingis had ACL surgery. There’s no official timetable yet for his return, but this week he told GQ.com that he is doing some contact drills and that he’s glad the rehab is coming to an end. Without Porzingis, the Knicks have relied on Tim Hardaway Jr. and Enes Kanter. Hardaway is averaging 23.9 points and 2.8 assists while Kanter is averaging 15.5 points and 11.7 rebounds. New York is now 4-13 on the season.
For the Trail Blazers, Seth Curry (right knee) and Maurice Harkless (left knee) are out for Tuesday’s game at New York.
The Knicks will be without Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Courtney Lee (neck). According to RotoWorld.com, Lee participated in some contact drills at Monday's practice.
Blazers vs. Knicks Recent History
The Trail Blazers won the season series 2-0 last year. In the Blazers-Knicks most recent matchup, Damian Lillard scored 37 points in a 111-87 victory last March In Portland. CJ McCollum added 19 points. That victory marked the Blazers eighth straight win on the way to the Blazers' 13-game winning streak last season.
Portland has won its last five of six contests at Madison Square Garden. This season the Knicks are 2-5 at home.
