Blazers vs. Wizards: A battle of premier backcourts
Wizards off to slow start
The Wizards are off to an 0-2 start while still averaging 115 points per game. Washington dropped its home opener to the Miami Heat last Thursday, 113-112. The Wizards followed that up with a 117-113 loss to the Raptors at home last Saturday.
Don’t want a repeat of Bradley Beal’s last performance in Portland
The last time Bradley Beal played against the Blazers in Portland, Beal scored a career-high 51 points as Washington beat Portland 106-92. In that December 5th loss, Damian Lillard scored 30.
Blazers relying on second unit
After Saturday’s win over the Spurs, the Blazers improved to 2-0 in their first two home games for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The Blazers success has been in big thanks to the bench, which now ranks second in the NBA in points among other second units with 48 points per game.
The Trail Blazers are not reporting any injuries for Monday's contest.
The Wizards have listed Dwight Howard (gluteal soreness) as out vs. the Blazers. Howard has yet to play in the regular season.
Lillard/McCollum vs. Wall/Beal
For the past few seasons there has a been a lot of talk about which backcourt is better between the Blazers' Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum and Washington's John Wall and Bradley Beal. Some debate that Wall and Beal should be ranked higher because of their defense. One thing is for certain: The battle between these two backcourts is always entertaining.
